The Pile Competes With the Embroidery

Fleece fibers can rise between stitches and soften the edges of lettering and shapes. Fine run lines may disappear into the surface even when they look clear on screen.

Digitizing should create enough foundation for the top stitches to sit above the texture.

Topping Helps Control the Surface

Water soluble topping is placed on top of raised fabrics during embroidery. It holds the pile down temporarily so stitches are placed on a flatter surface.

After production, the topping is removed or dissolved according to the product instructions.

Underlay Still Matters

Topping is not a replacement for underlay. The foundation stitches help support the visible thread and can reduce how deeply satin and fill stitches sink.

Small lettering needs controlled underlay so it receives support without becoming overly thick.

Watch Small Details

Very small gaps, fine outlines and tiny text are more difficult on fleece than on smooth woven fabric. A production friendly version of the logo may need larger text or fewer fine details.

Finer thread can help in some situations, but the pile still creates a physical limit.

Test the Actual Fleece Weight

Light microfleece and heavy fleece jackets do not behave exactly the same. Test the combination of backing, topping, needle and file before full production.
