Embroidery Digitizing Questions and Answers

Find clear answers about Melco OFM, Wilcom EMB, machine formats, pricing, turnaround, production, edit requests, and digital file delivery.

File Formats and Compatibility

Do you support Melco OFM?

Yes. Melco OFM is one of our primary editable embroidery formats. We can also provide common machine formats such as DST, PES, and EXP when requested.

Do you provide Wilcom EMB files?

Yes. Wilcom EMB is available when requested for projects that need an editable Wilcom format.

What is the difference between OFM, EMB, and DST?

OFM and EMB are editable native design formats used in Melco and Wilcom workflows. DST is a widely supported machine stitch format and does not retain the same editable object information as a native design file.

Can I request more than one file format?

Yes. Tell us which formats your production workflow requires when you order or request a quote.

Which embroidery machines can use the files?

We provide common machine formats used by Melco, Tajima, Barudan, Brother, Ricoma, ZSK, and other embroidery systems. The correct format depends on your machine and software workflow.

Can vector artwork be sent directly to an embroidery machine?

No. Vector artwork still needs embroidery digitizing because an embroidery machine requires stitch data, sequencing, density, underlay, and other production instructions.

Orders and Turnaround

What turnaround options are available?

Current options include Rush at about 5 business hours, Basic at about 12 business hours, and Budget at about 12 to 72 business hours depending on the selected service and project.

How do I send artwork and instructions?

Create an account, start an order or quote, upload your artwork, and include the requested size, application, format, and production notes.

Can I request an edit after delivery?

Yes. Edit requests can be submitted from the order so the requested change stays connected to the correct project.

How are completed files delivered?

Completed files are delivered digitally through your Naan Designs account. Your requested production files and available previews can be downloaded from the order.

Can I get a quote before ordering?

Yes. Use the quote option when you want pricing or scope reviewed before the project becomes an order.

Pricing and Payment

Do you charge embroidery digitizing by the stitch?

Standard pricing uses clear service tiers rather than a simple per stitch formula. Artwork that falls outside the standard scope may require a custom quote.

What does standard digitizing pricing cover?

The Pricing page lists current rates for common applications such as left chest, caps, 3D puff, and jacket backs across Rush, Basic, and Budget turnaround options.

Can complex artwork cost more?

Yes. Unusually complex artwork, specialty production requirements, or projects outside the standard scope can require a custom quote.

When do I pay for an order?

Payment is handled through the customer account when the order reaches the payment stage. Files unlock after successful payment according to the order workflow.

Digitizing Quality and Production

How do you build files for clean embroidery?

Digitizing decisions include stitch type, underlay, density, pull compensation, sequencing, stitch direction, and travel path based on the artwork and intended application.

Do caps require different digitizing than left chest embroidery?

Yes. Cap construction, curvature, center seams, and sewing direction can require different sequencing and stitch decisions than flat garments.

Do you digitize 3D puff embroidery?

Yes. 3D puff requires artwork and stitch construction that can support foam, edge coverage, tackdown, and the intended cap or garment application.

Why can small lettering be difficult to embroider?

Small lettering is limited by thread thickness, needle size, fabric, stitch width, density, and how much detail can physically fit into the requested size.

Does fabric affect digitizing?

Yes. Pique, performance wear, fleece, towels, jackets, caps, and other materials behave differently and may require different underlay, density, backing, topping, or stitch construction.

Can you improve a poorly performing embroidery file?

A file can often be adjusted or redigitized when the original stitch construction, density, sequencing, or other production settings are causing problems.

Accounts, Samples, and Support

Where can I download completed orders?

Sign in to your Naan Designs account and open the completed order to access the available production files.

Should I keep my own copy of completed files?

Yes. Your account provides convenient access, but production shops should also maintain their own organized backups of important customer files.

Can I test Naan Designs digitizing before placing an order?

Yes. The Free Samples page includes OFM samples that can be used to evaluate stitch quality and production behavior.

Can the free samples be resold or redistributed?

No. The free samples are provided for testing and evaluation, not for resale or redistribution.
