Native OFM Files

OFM designs are created in a Melco DesignShop workflow rather than produced by simply renaming or exporting an expanded stitch file.

  • Editable object information where the design supports it
  • Production sequencing built into the design
  • Useful for repeat work and future adjustments

Cap and Puff Experience

Cap and 3D puff files are planned around the physical limits of headwear, foam, center seams, and curved embroidery.

  • Center seam and curvature considered
  • Puff sequencing and edge control
  • Small lettering adjusted when practical

Turnaround Options

Choose the turnaround that fits your production schedule, including rush service for qualifying work.

  • Rush, standard and budget choices
  • Order status available through your account
  • Edit requests available when adjustments are needed

What Makes a Native OFM File Different?

OFM is used in Melco DesignShop workflows and can store more design information than an expanded machine stitch file such as DST. When a design is created as an OFM design, object information can support editing of elements such as stitch properties, sequencing, colors, and other design settings depending on how the file was built.

Importing a stitch only file and saving it as OFM does not automatically recreate the original object based design structure. That is why businesses that want editable Melco files often ask specifically for native OFM digitizing.

Production Focus

  • Pathing: stitch travel is planned to reduce unnecessary movement when the design allows it.
  • Underlay: selected according to stitch type, fabric, size, and coverage needs.
  • Compensation: adjusted for expected push and pull in embroidery.
  • Sequencing: elements are ordered with registration and production efficiency in mind.

Common OFM Projects

  • Left chest logos and uniforms
  • Structured and unstructured caps
  • 3D puff and flat embroidery combinations
  • Jacket backs and larger production designs
  • Repeat programs that benefit from editable master files
